As an elected councilman for the City of Aurora, Steve Sundberg shapes city policy, approves the budget, and addresses his constituents’ concerns through committees related to public safety, planning, water policy, and other city services. Steve Sundberg collaborates with other council members, city staff, and the community to develop legislation, oversee city services, and inform strategic planning.
His multifaceted role requires collaboration with city departments and regional partners on initiatives related to housing, infrastructure, and public safety. Steve Sundberg advocates for policies that promote Aurora's economic growth, quality of life, and public safety. Additionally, he has expertise in policy and legislative oversight, reviewing ordinances, zoning, and municipal law.
Mr. Sundberg serves as the liaison between the government and residents, ensuring that the government is responsive and transparent. He routinely communicates with his constituents at meetings, events, and digital platforms.
Through policy and legislation, Mr. Sundberg has supported the Aurora Mental Health’s Acute Care Campus, which brings badly needed mental health services to the city. He has connected key stakeholders to collaborate on the city’s Regional Navigation Campus, a three tier emergency incentivized approach to homelessness. He has advocated for a problem-solving homelessness court, a Homeless Outreach Team with the police department, a stricter camping ban, advocated for numerous affordable housing projects, and most recently has been a proponent of a permanent supportive housing, 43 unit Aurora Housing Authority mental health care bed-space facility. He has led Efforts on Water Policy for long-term water security. Moreover, Mr. Sundberg has advocated for infrastructure investment in Ward II and has represented Aurora at key regional board meetings.
